INTRODUCTION OF NIGER DELTA YOUTH FORUM
Niger Delta Youth Forum (NDYF) is a national youth organization that cuts across all the nine Niger Delta States in Nigeria. It is the amalgamations of all Niger Delta youth groups.
NDYF has structures in all the nine states, a national secretariat sited in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria with membership strength of over 1.2 million youths. Niger Delta Youth Forum has the responsibility of bringing together, the people of the region to harness their resources and energy in the best possible way for the restoration of even development in the neglected areas and beyond, which is responsible for the menaces of youth restiveness and agitations in the area.
The organization covers the following thematic areas;
1. Youth empowerment and employment.
2. Sustainable democracy and good governance.
3. Women empowerment and protection.
4. Advocacy on HIV/AIDS and good health.
5. Education.
6. Budget tracking and monitoring.
7. Peace advocacy and conflict resolution.
8. Advocacy for safe domestic water, sanitation and environmental protection.
9. Project monitoring.
NDYF therefore, address unemployment problems and train youth leaders in conflict resolutions and mitigation. Thus, the organization is totally against militancy and adoption of any kind as associated with the region. We provide an avenue for peaceful co-existence of both the oil companies and their host communities, teaching a new way for addressing the long neglect of the area, by both Nigerian government and the oil companies operating within the NIGER DELTA.
MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of NDYF is to provide genuine struggle for participation, emancipation and empowerment of all Niger Delta people for an overall development of the Niger Delta Areas of Nigeria.
VISION:
To see a Niger Delta region, where the youths are an instrument of positive change and are empowered both economically and politically for a sustainable development.
OBJECTIVES:
1. To actively Mobilize Youths in the Niger Delta for both economic and political empowerment.
2. To promote and ensure the sustenance of peace in the Niger Delta area through advocacy, symposiums, lectures and seminars for the youths in the region.
3. To discourage militancy and violence, an impediment to the actual development of the area.
4. To promote good health/HIV and AIDS, and the protection of Niger Delta environment through advocacy.
5. To assist in the protection of lives and properties in the area including oil installations.
6. To join in the fight against corruption as it accounts for a huge percentage of existing problems in the Niger Delta.

I greatly appreciate the idea of involving the youths in such issues as AIDS. In my home country Zambia we are no exception to this deadly disease which is attacking the very fabric of society, the youths. I have worked in Non Governmental Organisations since my University times in issues of AIDS and I still have the passion to continue. Currently am working for Lusaka City Council as an Acting Assistant Public Relations Manager and I have come to learn that more than 50 % of the work force at my place of work are sick. I would really love to learn even at International level, from my fellow youths how we can bring change on this disease.
